Super 7's Round 1 09

Stiffla and I had started writing this blog on the plane, but it's stuck on my laptop now and I can't be bothered getting it off... so I'll start again.

On Monday night we got back from the first round of the Super 7's. The event had pretty much all of Australia's top pro teams competing. We had arranged for Bobby Aviles to play with us from SD Aftermath. He's the best guy. And he played amazing.

The weekend went really well. The field was pretty challenging. The snake side consisted of two little snakes which were pretty hard to paly and then a big "U" which was probably the best bunker on the field. The dorito side was easier to move down but probably a bit less damaging.

Some hightlight games... Stiffla beating down on Menace in the prelims. Bobby winning a 2 on 1 vs. X-fighters. I had a sweet game against ECR on Sunday morning... Favourite game was the one against Geelong who had gone undefeated in the prelims. We managed to beat them the second time around and I felt we were really playing as a team. Beating Menace the second game too in the prelims. Actually, we beat everyone at least once on the weekend now that I think about it. We finished the prelims in 2nd.

We had to play Menace first up in the finals. The winner of this game would go on to play for 1st and 2nd. First game up, their American's got up the field really quick and we just couldn't fight them off. The next game, we dug deep and played a long and exhausting game. I dropped all 8 pods. We were right about to win the game, with Bobby just finishing shooting the last player I think, and then time ran out. Now we had to win the next game to go onto 1 on 1's to decide the winner. We went with the same gameplan. We battled the game down to the dying minutes again. Bobby bunkered out their "U" and the game withered down to a 2 on 2. It was just me and Logan left. I worked my way down the dorito side. I'd shot 8 or 9 pods again. I was trying to snap out their guy posted on me, but as luck would have it I was breaking paint and it was just flying everywhere, so I kept going to the 50 brick. I continued to gun-battle with them, aware that time was running out. I ended up losing the gun-battle and got a 1 for 1... I thought the paint had bounced, but it hit right under my chin where I can't see with the mask on, and when it hit I caught the shell spiralling away in the corner of my eye... I thought it was the whole ball bouncing off.

I'm not accusing anything here, just saying exactly what happened. The Menace player ran up to grab the flag, as he did so he looked at the back of his leg, where there was a sizeable blob of paint, stopped what he was doing, and casually walked to the deadbox. What the hell?! Isn't that playing on with a hit?! We argued our point to no avail. It would have made the world of difference if that player was eliminated earlier though. 2 on 1.

I was really proud of how the guys played. We were playing against 3 professionals from America. We gave it everything. I felt absolutely spent mentally after the Menace game. We bought it right to the wire.

Following this, we had to play Hostile, last year's series winners for 3rd and 4th. I don't think we played terrible, but that edge just wasn't there. It was sort of just like "damnit here we go again." Without that extra drive they beat us in two games, leaving us with 4th place.

Above all, I had a heap of fun over the weekend. This was the team's first trip away for the year. I don't think we can be disappointed at how we went.

Pre-event Super 7's Round 1

So... 3 days till we fly off to Sydney for the first round of the Super 7's. I'm really excited and looking forward to a good weekend with the guys. Everyone better bring their "A" game... this tournament probably has the most competition at one event that Australia has seen in a little while. As long as we keep our heads and stay focused, I think we should be able to do OK.

We've managed to arrange for Bobby Aviles, a professional from America, to play on the team. Everyone is stoked. Having him should give all the guys a little extra confidence, and I think we're going to be able to learn heaps from him.

Everything is pretty much in place now... all that's left is to play the weekend out.

TK Tourney Round 2

Yesterday was the second round of the TK series. The day went smooth and First & Only did a sweet job reffing.

I really liked the field. It was aggressive on both sides, and we decided pretty early on that a lot of games would just be a race to the 50's. You could even do damage from the first knuckle of the snake. Stiffla was able to get up the dorito side quickly and into the carwash. I went sort of up the middle into the 50 rolley. Griffin pushed the snake. Rambo got a kill off the break pretty much every game. We had Mason in the corner for the first few games, but later we moved him to play back center behind me. And we had Diesel play everywhere.

We won every game, except the one against Menace Kids. They were able to blow out our snake side and just tore us up from it.

Final results were...

1st - STK
2nd - Young Gunz
3rd - Menace Inc
4th - Menace Kids

Now we've got one more training and then it's off to Sydney for the Super 7's.
